A mobile communication terminal and an operation method thereof are provided to control input/output of a transceived voice according to a connected state in which earphones and an assistance cable are mounted on the terminal, so that an input/output mode can be automatically changed, thereby improving a user's convenience. An input/output interface unit(70) is mounted with earphones and an assistance cable, and generates a connection sensing signal by sensing the mounted state. A signal processor(60) recognizes a voltage level in accordance with a voltage value of the connection sensing signal. A controller(10) sets an input/output mode according to the voltage level of the connection sensing signal, and controls so that an audio signal is inputted/outputted through the earphones and the assistance cable according to the input/output mode. A communication unit(20) transmits and receives a signal or data through an antenna by using a mobile communication network or a radio network. A memory(50) stores set-up data or control data for enabling a mobile communication terminal(MS) to perform an operation, and particularly stores the data for setting up an input/output mode depending on a connection sensing signal from the input/output interface unit(70).
