A method for preparing a spherical carrier for an olefin polymerization catalyst is provided to produce the spherical carrier having a smooth surface and a uniform particle size distribution. A method for preparing a spherical carrier for an olefin polymerization catalyst includes a step of reacting metal magnesium with alcohol in the presence of a nitrogen halogen compound, as a reaction initiator, selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by the following formulae I-IV. The nitrogen halogen compound is used in an amount of 0.001-0.2 parts by weight based on 1 part by weight of the metal magnesium. The alcohol is used in an amount of 5-50 parts by weight based on 1 part by weight of the metal magnesium.
