The device has a high pressure area (36) of a pressure amplifier (28) connected permanently with a leakage line (42) over a return valve (56), and an amplifier area (32) of the amplifier connected with a 3/ 2 port valve (40), which connects the amplifier area with a pressure storage area (24) or the line. Another 3/ 2 port valve (44) provided in a connection line (38) between the area (24) and a pressure chamber (16), connects the chamber alternatively with the area (24) or the leakage line. Buffer storage (54) and a pressure control valve (52) are arranged in the leakage line. An independent claim is also included for a procedure for the operation of a fuel injecting device.
