Electrochemical memory device

The device (100) has identical active layers (102, 104) formed of electronic and ionic conducting crystalline material e.g. Lipon(RTM: solid lithium electrolyte) type glass, and transition metal oxide e.g. lithium manganese oxide, where the layers release or accept an ionic species, in a reversible manner. A solid electrolyte (106) is formed between the active layers, and a measuring unit (114) measures an electrochemical potential difference between the active layers. A current generating unit (112) injects current in the layers, in the form of current pulses. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a nano electrochemical memory cell device.
