A coiled tubing connection comprises a coiled tubing 46 having a plurality of protrusions 68 extending radially from an end of the coil tubing, and a connector 48 having an engagement end 52 for sliding engagement with the coil tubing, the engagement end having a plurality of bayonet slots 56 (made of axial slots 58, transverse slots 60) arranged to receive and engage the protrusions 68 on the coiled tubing. Preferably the connector is inserted into the tubing. The engagement is formed by relative axial and rotational movement between the spooled tubing and the connector. A retention mechanism is ideally provided. This breech-lock system is ideally used in well-bore applications (eg., drilling) wherein a tool can be quickly connected to the coiled tubing via the bayonet adaptor. An independent claim relates to a locking method for a downhole tool joint comprising first and second components having castellation formation, and means to prevent relative movement of the castellations of both components.
