A camera phone having a USB(Universal Serial Bus) interface unit within a camera module and an operation method thereof are provided to comprise the USB interface unit for separate images only within the camera module, thereby sending images to an external computer through a USB without applying loads to a controller, consequently stability of software operation can be realized. An image sensor(322) converts a taken optical signal into an electronic signal. An image processor(324) converts the electronic signal into image data. An image-only USB interface unit(326) converts the image data outputted from the image processor(324) according to a USB communication standard. A USB connector(329) provides a USB connector pin in accordance with the USB communication standard, and sends the image data outputted from the USB interface unit(326) to the outside.
