A method for detecting the level 3 movement of a wireless LAN terminal and an apparatus therefor are provided to determine whether the level 3 movement occurs, thereby removing unnecessary overhead generated as the wireless LAN terminal performs level 3 handoff signaling whenever performing handoff. A method for detecting the level 3 movement of a wireless LAN(Local Area Network) terminal(110) comprises the following steps of: receiving the level 2 identifiers of plural APs(Access Points)(121~124) and a network table including level 3 information respectively corresponding to the level 2 identifiers from a network information server; receiving the level 2 identifier of a connected or reconnected AP according to AP connection or reconnection; and searching for the level 3 information corresponding to the level 2 identifier of the connected or reconnected AP in the received network table and determining whether level 3 movement occurs on the basis of the searched level 3 information.
