A method for tracing a multiple object using difference images is provided to trace multiple objects rapidly and exactly by confirming the existence of a multiple mobile object on the basis of difference images, separating the objects of the multiple mobile object using projection vectors, obtaining the direction of the multiple mobile object through the comparison between the objects obtained at the previous frame and the objects obtained at the present frame, setting a reference block for a big edge portion in the obtained direction, and carrying out block matching. In tracing a multiple mobile object, a control part obtains a difference image from the image signals inputted through a CCD camera. If two difference images are obtained, the control part separates the objects of the multiple mobile object respectively using projection vectors from the two difference images. Then the control part establishes a reference block for a sharply changed edge portion of each of the objects. By carrying out block matching between the established reference block and the data interval of the present difference image, the control part traces the multiple mobile object.
