An emergency braking device for an elevator is provided to brake the elevator by using a rope solidly and smoothly in case of emergency braking. In an emergency braking device for an elevator, a base frame(100) has a first side panel and a second side panel. A fixing plate(200) is installed between side panels of the base frame. A movement plate(300) brakes a rope with the fixing plate and is installed between side panels by intervening the rope. A guide plane(350) is formed on the movement plate, and is formed to be slant toward the fixing plate. A roller assembly(700) is combined to each side panel and contacts with the guide plane of the movement plate. A guide hole(411) is formed at each side panel, and is formed to be slant toward the fixing plate. A movement axis(421) is guided by each guide hole and is combined to the movement plate. A control assembly(500) controls down-movement of the movement axis by an actuator, and releases the control of the movement axis in case of emergency braking.
