A marine seismic streamer includes at least one strength member 42 (e.g. fibre rope) extending along its length. Seismic sensors 56 (e.g. hydrophones) are disposed in sensor spacers 34. The sensor spacers are attached to the strength member(s) 42 in such a way that there is substantial acoustic isolation between the spacers and strength members. This may be achieved by providing a rigid tube 60 with flanged ends 62 which surrounds the strength member and is inserted into a channel 52A in the spacer 34. Resilient rings 64 (e.g. elastomer) on the exterior of the rigid tube 60 fit into grooves 66 in the spacer and decouple the tube 60 from the spacer 34. The streamer has reduced noise due to transient tension of the strength members (i.e the Poisson effect). The streamer may include foamed polyurethane buoyancy spacers, electrical conductors and optical fibres, a curable urethane-based polymer filler, and a polyurethane outer jacket. |
