A method for preparing, at a lower cost, lithium metal phosphate that can be used as an electrode active material for lithium secondary batteries is provided, lithium metal phosphate prepared by the method is provided, an electrode comprising the lithium metal phosphate as an electrode active material is provided, and a secondary battery comprising the electrode is provided. As a method for preparing lithium metal phosphate represented by the formula LixMyPO4 using, as a starting material, a mixture of metal(M) and metal oxide containing the metal, the method comprises the steps of: (a) mixing the metal, the metal oxide containing the metal, a lithium salt, and a phosphate; and (b) subjecting a mixture of the previous step to heat treatment at a temperature of 450 to 850 deg.C in an inert atmosphere, thereby firing the mixture, wherein M is selected from Mg, Al, Ga, and B as transition metals of groups 3 to 12, x is ranged from 0.05 to 1.2, and y is ranged from 0.8 to 1.2.. The method further comprises the step of additionally adding a carbonaceous material to the mixture prior to the step(b). |
