AIR CONDITIONER AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to perform reliable normal cooling operation under an outdoor condition of low temperature and to increase cooling efficiency by variable control of the speed of an indoor fan. A control method of an air conditioner capable of performing cooling operation by controlling a compressor, the method comprises the steps of: sensing a temperature(Te) of an indoor heat exchanger(S102); comparing the sensed temperature with a predetermined first reference temperature(T1) and controlling the speed of an indoor fan if the temperature of indoor heat exchanger is lower than the first reference temperature(S104); controlling on/off of an outdoor fan if the temperature of indoor heat exchanger is lower than the first reference temperature(S108); sensing the temperature of indoor heat exchanger, whose temperature is changing according to the speed control of the indoor fan(S110); and comparing the sensed temperature with a predetermined second reference temperature(T3) and turning off the compressor if the temperature of indoor heat is lower than the second reference temperature(S112,114).
