摘要
757,676. Machines for making paper caps. WHITE CASTLE SYSTEM, Inc. Sept. 27, 1954, No. 27885/54. Class 63. [Also in Group XVI] Relates to a machine for making paper caps for use by persons engaged in the handling and processing of food products and each comprising a cylindrical band portion 1, Figs. 26, 27, formed from a strip of paper, the upper and lower edges of which are folded and the ends of the band telescoped one within the other and a crown portion 2 formed from a circular blank of tissue paper which is shaped and pleated to the cup-form shown in Fig. 23 and is then inserted within the band portion 1 to engage in the lower fold thereof as shown in Fig. 25, this lower fold and the lower edge of the crown portion 2 then being folded inwardly as shown in Fig. 26 to retain the crown portion within the band. According to the invention the machine comprises a stationary cutting ring 59, Fig. 3 and a co-operating movable cutting ring 58 for cutting the circular blank from a web W of paper fed by rollers 24, 24<1>, the blank then being pushed by a plunger 33 through a pleating ring 30 into a suction cup 69, Fig. 2, the formation of pleats in the blank being assisted by rotation of a sleeve 38 associated with the plunger 33 and carrying rollers 41 on a flange 37. The suction cup 69 with the the crown portion 2 therein is then swung through 180 degrees to a position d, Fig. 1, in alignment with one of a number of capforming suction cylinders 85 formed in an intermittently rotated turret T and in which has been inserted a band strip 1 folded to the form shown in Fig. 25 by folding mechanism 127. The suction cup 69 is then moved into and out of the suction cylinder 85 to deposit the portion 2 therein and to engage the lower fold of the band as shown in Fig. 25 and on subsequent rotation of the turret T to bring the cylinder 85 to position e, the lower edges of the band and crown portions are folded to interengage as shown in Fig. 26. The band web W depending from rolls 24, 24<1> extends across the rear face of a plate 28, Figs. 2, 3, with a centre opening to which the pleating ring 30, formed with pleating recesses 32, is secured. The plunger head 33 is mounted on a non-rotatable but longitudinally movable shaft 34. The sleeve 38 carrying the pleating rollers 41 located at the periphery of the plunger head 33 is rotatable on the shaft 34 through gearing 42, 44 and a flexible shaft 45. A double-acting fluid cylinder 49 carries a piston rod 50 connected at 51 to a yoke 52 pivoted at 53 on the machine frame, the yoke 52 engaging the hub 54 of a spider 55 slidably mounted on the sleeve 38. This spider 55 is provided with a cutter ring 57 formed with serrated cutting teeth 58 co-operating with teeth 59 formed on the plate 28. Two suction cups 69 are secured at the ends of an arm 74, Figs. 1, 2, carried on a shaft 79 intermittently rotated through 180 degrees by gearing 83, 84, the gear teeth 84 being formed on the turret T and being spaced around its periphery. The hub of the arm 74 also engages rotatably in one end of a hollow non-rotatable shaft 70 surrounding the shaft 79 and forming a bearing for one end thereof and the shaft 70 together with the arm 74 and cups 69 can be displaced longitudinally on the shaft 79 by means of a rack and pinion 100, 101. After the uppermost cup 69 has received a crown portion 2, the plunger head 33 is withdrawn and rotation of gears 83, 84 brings the cup 69 into line with a suction cylinder 85 of the turret T in position d, Fig. 1. Operation of the rack and pinion 100, 101 then moves the cup 69 into the cylinder 85 to deposit the crown portion 2 therein and to engage it with a cap band 1 already positioned in the cylinder 85, the band 1 having been subjected to folding operations in positions b and c of the cylinder 85 by folding mechanism 127. The band-forming strip initially is discharged from a slide 20 and is circularly wrapped around the inner wall of the cylinder 85 in position a, which is then moved to positions b, c for the folding operations. The final folding operation is effected at position e and the assembled cap discharged from the cylinder 85 at position f.
