757,660. Batteries. CHAN MING LEAM. July 23, 1954, No. 21649/54. Class 53. A dry cell has a central electrode 3 surrounded by active material 2 contained in a cup-shaped electrode 1 which is surrounded by an impervious sheath 11 of plastic material which is sealed round the upper end of the electrode 3 and open at its lower end to expose the bottom of the electrode 1. The upper end of the electrode 1 is closed by an impervious. disc 4 held between the inturned edge 6 of the electrode and a bead 5 formed in its wall. The cap 8 of the central electrode is formed with a flange 9 which carries a rubber sealing ring 10 abutting against the underside of the top of sheath 11. The sheath may be made of polyvinyl chloride and is formed with a flange 12 at its lower end. The lower end of the electrode 1 may be protected against corrosion by being made thicker than the walls or by the addition of a plate 13. The electrode 1 and plate 13 may be made of zinc if the cell is a primary cell or of steel in the case of a secondary cell of the alkaline type. |
