A stack of cells that are energized by immersion in water or electrolyte are bound together by bands or threads of a material that contracts when heated, polyvinyl chloride, for example. The heat may be provided by the chemical action of the cells, for example in cells employing a magnesium anode and a depolarizer of copper chloride, or by the passage of current through the cells or by the introduction into the cells of hot electrolyte. The bands or threads after being wound round the cells are secured by stitching, adhesion or welding by high-frequency current. Specification 755,994 is referred to. |
