[Also in Group XL (c)] Stored colour images laid down by guns 20, 22 on storage target 30 are presented simultaneously by flood electrons which are directed through perforations in the target 30 to a phosphor screen 36. The colour images are laid down through a shadow mask 28, and phosphor stripes on screen 36 register with the corresponding colour images. Flood guns are located in tube necks as close to the writing gun necks as possible to give similar angles of incidence at the target. The storage target consists of a stainless steel or nickel grid 45, Fig. 4, with a dielectric layer, e.g. talc on the side facing the guns, and an aluminium grid 47. Conduction electrons released in the dielectric layer under bombardment are attracted to the front surface by the potential on the grid 47. Erasure of the charge images is by secondary emission. The storage time set by the potential on the grid 47 may be short, or long, or infinite, in which case erasure may be for example by momentarily pulsing the grid 47 in a negative direction. The mask 28 consists of a glass core 40, Fig. 3, with a thin coating of aluminium 41. The openings 42 are equal in width to the solid sections for a two-colour embodiment and one-half the width for a threecolour embodiment. The tube is applicable to radar or television.
