An image processing apparatus and a method for controlling the same are provided to increase the user's convenience by automatically providing optimized pictures according to purposes in case a PC(Personal Computer) is connected. An image processing apparatus comprises an image receiving part(210), an image judging part(240), a control part(230), an image processing part(220), and a display part(250). The image receiving part(210) receives TV broadcast signals. Also the image processing part(220) receives image signals through an external device, such as a PC. If a PC image signal is received through the image processing part(220), the image judging part(240) judges whether the received signal is a moving picture or a still picture. The control part(230) executes a control operation so that image processing can be performed with associated image setting values, based on a judgement result from the image judging part(240). Based on a control signal from the control part(230), the image processing part(220) adjusts and outputs the image signal with the image setting values previously stored in a memory(260) or the image setting values received through a user interface part(270). The display part(250) displays the image-processed signal.
