A brake pedal apparatus for protecting a driver is provided to prevent an ankle of the driver from being bent backward by a pedal by allowing the pedal to move forward upon a collision accident. A brake pedal apparatus for protecting a driver comprises a base bracket(10), a support bracket(30) coupled to the base bracket through an assembly bolt(21), a pedal arm(50) assembled to the support bracket through a hinge member(40), a cap member(60) coupled to the hinge member by passing through the base bracket, and a medium bolt(70). The support bracket is formed at an upper end thereof with an operation projection(31). Opening grooves(33c,35c) are formed at an outer edge extending from the operation projection to a front side of a vehicle. The pedal arm is coupled to a push rod in a portion adjacent to the hinge member. The cap member releases the coupling state for the hinge member upon a rotation of the support bracket. The medium bolt passes through the base bracket and the opening grooves, and releases the coupling state for the support bracket upon a rotation of the support bracket.
