AC-TO-DC CONVERTER AND METHOD FOR CONVERTING AC TO DC USING THE SAME

An AC-to-DC converter and a method for converting AC to DC using the same are provided to increase AC-to-DC conversion efficiency up to approximately 89% or higher and reduce standby power of the AC-to-DC converter. An AC-to-DC converter includes a rectifying circuit(102), a first control circuit(103), a fist switching unit(104), and a first charge accumulating circuit(108). The rectifying circuit rectifies inputted commercial power(AC 100 to 200V) by a half wave or a full wave and converts the rectified power into pulsating wave alternating current power. The first control circuit outputs a pulse control signal by comparing the converted pulsating wave alternating current power with a reference voltage. The first switching unit outputs the pulsating wave alternating current power by switching the pulsating alternating current power according to the pulse control signal outputted from the first control circuit. The first charge accumulating circuit equalizes the pulsating wave alternating current power to convert the equalized pulsating wave alternating current power into primary direct current power.
