A process for the production of a crepe fabric comprises, subjecting to the shrinking action of a hot aqueous liquid or vapour, a fabric containing yarns of partially acetalized polyvinyl alcohol which has been given a crepe twist of at least 1000 turns per metre and which, in their untwisted state, are not shrunk by more than 5% of their length by water at 100‹ C. The fabric may contain yarns of other materials, e.g. silk, wool, cotton, regenerated cellulose.
