PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein a linear relay distance is limited because of nonlinearity of a transmission line optical fiber.

SOLUTION: The optical communication system is provided with: an optical amplifier which amplifies wavelength multiplex signal light beams together at a time; a wavelength selection type demultiplexer installed on the output side of the optical amplifier; a plurality of transmission line optical fibers installed on the output side of the wavelength multiplex type demultiplexer; a wavelength selection type multiplexer installed on the output side of the transmission line optical fibers; and an optical amplifier installed on the output side of the wavelength selection type multiplexer and amplifying wavelength multiplex signal light beams together at a time.
