PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for eliminating tar in biomass pyrolysis gas, capable of easily and surely eliminating the tar in the biomass pyrolysis gas based on pressure and temperature, capable of reducing a cost required for the elimination, preventing the decrease of amount of heat generation of the pyrolysis gas, also capable of suitably being applied to a system built-in an electric power generation device equipped with a thermal engine such as a gas engine or gas turbine, etc., and eliminating the tar reasonably in the system. SOLUTION: This device for eliminating the tar from the pyrolysis gas obtained by pyrolysis-treating biomass raw materials is provided by installing a compression device 1 for compression-treating the pyrolysis gas and a cooling device 2 for cool-treating the pyrolysis gas after the compression-treatment from the upstream to down stream of flowing direction of the pyrolysis gas one by one. The device is equipped with the electric power generation device 3 operated with the pyrolysis gas and the compression device 1 is constituted by a turbo charger 1a run by the exhaust gas of the electric power generation device.
