A method for recording the highlights of a broadcast program is provided to judge highlight scenes more exactly by comparing the signal level of the center audio of an audio multi channel and the signal level of the rear or front audio with a preset reference value. In case a user, who has selected a sports program, sets highlight recording mode, a microcomputer(15) controls a highlight detection part(19) to confirm a 5.1-channel audio outputted through an audio decoder(13). The highlight detection part(19) compares the signal level of the center audio of the 5.1-channel audio and the signal level of the rear or front audio of the 5.1-channel audio with a preset reference value. In case both signal levels exceed the preset reference value, the highlight detection part(19) judges that a highlight has been detected. At this moment, the microcomputer(15) records broadcast data during an appointed time and temporarily stores the recorded broadcast data in a flash memory(20).
