<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact objective lens drive mechanism while preventing the wires from being deformed and the damper material from decreasing. <P>SOLUTION: The objective lens drive mechanism 30 has a base 41, a lens holder 42 provided on the base 41, an objective lens 25 provided at the center on the lens holder 42, permanent magnets 43a, 43b provided at both sides of the lens holder 42, supports 44 wired at both sides of the lens holder 42, and a retainer 45 made of resin. The upper surface of the retainer 45 is higher than a standing part 41a of the base 41 and the permanent magnet 43a. The retainer 45 has a cover 45a partially covering the support extending in the tangential direction.
