PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor camera system capable of recording only a necessary part with high image quality by combining a video camera and a still picture camera with each other. SOLUTION: A monitor camera unit 10 includes a camera for motion picture photography which receives one light beam divided by a half-mirror, a camera for successive still picture photography of high image quality which receives the other light beam, and a transmitting circuit which transmits image signals individually. A recording device 15 receives the signals from the monitor camera unit and records motion picture data and still picture data in ring buffers respectively. Then image data within a predetermined time range before and after motion detection are saved in response to motion detection information. They may be transmitted to a predetermined server through a network. A still picture of high image quality, for example, only necessary portions before and after the motion detection can be recorded.
