PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device that has performance such as high reliability, and high speed while holding down data maintenance costs. SOLUTION: The storage device has a relay interposed between a controller and a plurality of hierarchically arranged disk devices different in performance. The controller I/O-accesses the disk devices via the relay in response to access requests sent from a host device.
