PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polylactic acid which suppresses reduction in modulus of elasticity in the vicinity of a crystallization temperature and has improved heat resistance. SOLUTION: The method for producing a polylactic acid comprises making at least one of a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and a poly-D-lactic acid (PDLA) into a fibrous state and melting and kneading PLLA and PDLA at 170-190°C when PLLA and PDLA are melted and kneaded. The polylactic acid is processed into various moldings, films, sheets, fibers and composite material with other materials by injection molding, extrusion molding, etc., and useful for various uses demanding heat resistance.
