Pharmacological inhibition of fatty acid amide hydrolase (FTVAH) activity leads to increased levels of fatty acid amides. Esters of alkylcarbamic aci ds are disclosed that are inhibitors of FAAH activity. Compounds disclosed h erein inhibit FAAH activity and further provide an analgesic, anti-inflammat ory, or anti-pyretic agent. Described herein is a process for the preparatio n of esters of alkylcarbamic acid compounds, compositions that include them, and methods of use thereof.
