<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive and control two motors independently with a single inverter based on a new principle. <P>SOLUTION: The inverter 20 having MxN arms is connected to a first motor having N sets of M-phase coils and a second one having M sets of N-phase coils. At least one of the first and second motors has teeth that are a multiple of, or an integer multiple of the number of phases of the motor, and MxN coils are wound around respective teeth as not less than two coils. MxN drive points of the first motor are connected to the corresponding arm output of the inverter. NxM drive points of the second motor are connected to the arm output of the inverter so that each M-phase coil of the second motor is connected to N in-phase drive points of the first motor. A controller 10 supplies MxN PWM (pulse width modulation) control signals to the first and second motors to the inverter by time sharing, thus driving the two motors independently. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
