<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress generation of noise at the boundary of image blocks by performing one of irreversible or reversible encoding in a region belonging to a specific image while permitting mixture of encoded data due to reversible encoding and irreversible encoding, and to attain high compression efficiency in a region not belonging to a specific image. <P>SOLUTION: A specific image decision section 106 decides whether the image data of an image block input from an input section 101 belongs to a specific image or not. If it is a specific image, an encoding data selecting section 107 selects and outputs one preselected encoded data out of irreversibly encoded data which is encoded at a first encoding section 104 not through the intermediary of a resolution converting section 102 and reversibly encoded data obtained from a second encoding section 105 until encoding of one page is completed. If it does not belong to a specific image, the encoding data selecting section 107 selects and outputs the data of less code amount out of the irreversibly encoded data subjected to low resolution conversion at the resolution converting section 102 and the reversibly encoded data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
