PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter selecting a transmission path of the best transmission characteristics for communication, a receiver, a transmission/reception system including them, and a data transmission method for the transmission/reception system.

SOLUTION: Transmission side communication equipment 1 transmits the data of the same contents received through an upstream network through the plurality of transmission paths 31-34 to reception side communication equipment 2. The reception side communication equipment 2 selects the transmission path for receiving the data from the plurality of transmission paths corresponding to the transmission characteristics of the data of the same contents received through the plurality of transmission paths 31-34, and transmits the data received through the selected transmission path to a downstream network. Thus, the transmission path of the best transmission characteristics among the plurality of transmission paths 31-34 is selected for communication.
