PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk play device or the like in which a kind of a disk can be discriminated quickly. SOLUTION: A control part 40 controls a drive part 20 so that first a laser beam for BD (wavelength 405 nm, NA 0.85) is projected to a disk D, and it is discriminated whether the disk is BD or other than BD (HD DVD, DVD, CD) from presence of its reflected signal. That is, in consideration that even if the laser beam for BD is projected to HD DVD, DVD, and CD, a reflected beam is not obtained, and the group is roughly separated into BD or others from presence of the reflected signal. Next, when any of HD DVD, DVD, and CD is discriminated, the control part 40 radiates a laser beam for CD (wavelength 780 nm, NA0.45) to the disk D, and discriminates a kind of the disk D from a signal level of the reflected signal.
