<p>A method for controlling the tension of an endless continuous elongated drive member (13) moved around a closed-loop path and having a slack section along which undulations form consists in placing at a point along said slack section a sensor (23) for detecting undulations of the slack section and counting the number of them, this number being used as a parameter for measuring the tension of the drive member.</p>
