PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer electrifying apparatus which is extremely durable with high freedom in setting an electrode cleaning action. SOLUTION: A discharge bias power source 21 is connected between discharge electrode 11 in a fine wire and a shield electrode 12 installed in the vicinity of the discharging electrode 11 and corona discharge is made to occur in the vicinity of the discharging electrode 11 with discharge bias voltage applied. Every time accumulated discharge time for corona discharge using the discharging electrode 11 reaches one hundred minutes, an action to stretch and shrink the discharging electrode 11 by 3% is repeated by activating an electrode stretching/shrinking actuator a plurality of times while applying bias voltage. Since scales separated from a surface of the discharging electrode due to fatigue from the stretching and shrinking are flicked off instantly by high voltage, the discharge electrode 11 is cleaned and discharge uniformity is recovered.
