PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the exchange of an endless intermediate transfer belt with side plates composed of the same members for supporting bearings of an outside roller and other suspension roller is not possible unless at least one of the side plates is removed at the time of exchanging the intermediate transfer belt, and the problem that the configuration to divide the side plates, if adopted, complicates the work of exchanging the intermediate transfer belt and spends the exchange time, and therefore, the time for operating the image forming apparatus is reduced. SOLUTION: The outside roller is adapted to be a steering roller and the alignment change position of the outside roller is made controllable to a retreat position where the tension of a belt body is released within a range where the deviation of the belt body is controlled and outside the range where the deviation of the belt body. Further, the one end having an alignment changing means of the support side plate pivotally supporting the roller for suspending the belt body from its inner side and the support side plate pivotally supporting the outside roller is independently disposed not across the belt body.
