PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display whose responsiveness is improved by performing lighting control of LEDs corresponding to temperature and temperature distribution of a liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: In the LCD, light made incident from the LEDs 17 is reflected in a direction vertical to the surface of the liquid crystal panel 15 and transmitted through the liquid crystal panel 15 as uniform light by a light guide plate 19. A light shielding part 24 projecting from an inner wall of a heat conducting frame 22 covers the upper part of the LEDs 17, intercepts light emitted by the LEDs 17 on the upper side and absorbs its radiated heat. The inner wall of the heat conducting frame 22 also absorbs radiated heat from the side surface of the LEDs 17. The radiated heat is conducted to the liquid crystal panel 15 by the heat conducting frame 22. An LED controlling part controls the number of lighting LEDs 17 according to the temperature sensed by a temperature sensor 18 to prevent lowering of temperature of the liquid crystal panel 15.
