PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDF measuring method realizable relative to a two-beam interferometer (for example, MZI) arranged in a demodulator. SOLUTION: Light intensity, an eye opening, a code error rate or a Q-value of an optical output of the two-beam interferometer is used as a measuring parameter, and a polarization state 1 wherein the measuring parameter becomes maximum and a polarization state 2 wherein the measuring parameter becomes minimum are derived in a prescribed optical frequency, and PDF is derived based on a difference between optical frequency dependency of the measuring parameter in the polarization state 1 and optical frequency dependency of the measuring parameter in the polarization state 2. Otherwise, the PDF is derived based on a difference between dependency of 'a phase difference of the two-beam interferometer' of the measuring parameter in the polarization state 1 and dependency of 'the phase difference of the two-beam interferometer' of the measuring parameter in the polarization state 2.
