[Also in Group XXXIV] A tyre casing comprises a tread portion composed of an oil-extended high Mooney viscosity synthetic rubber-like composition, a carcass portion of plied fabric impregnated with a rubber-like composition affected by oil and a barrier of oil-resistant synthetic rubber-like composition positioned between said tread portion and said carcass portion whereby migration of the oil extender of the former into the latter is arrested. As shown, a pneumatic tyre casing 10 comprises an inner carcass portion of rubber-impregnated fabric 11 consisting of parallel cord, wrapped around beads and applied on a bias and an outer tread portion 12 composed of synthetic rubber containing an oleaginous plasticizer, between which there is interposed a thin barrier layer 17 composed of an oil - resistant neoprene composition having approximately the same physical properties as the tread portion. The tread portion may consist of a butadiene-styrene composition plasticised with petroleum oil. The barrier layer may consist of a neoprene composition. The oil-containing rubber-like material is not present in the sidewall portion 13 below a point half-way between the base of the bead 15 and the crown of the tread 20. Where the whole of the outer rubber-like portion of the tyre is composed of oil-containing material the barrier layer should completely (not shown) enclose the carcass portion. |
