PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 1,3-diketone in a high yield by a single reaction without performing a multiple number of reaction steps. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 1,3-diketone is provided by performing a coupling reaction of (A) an enone with (B) an aldehyde, as expressed by formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>are each a 1-40C organic group without inhibiting the coupling reaction and also stable for the coupling reaction; and R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>are each H or a 1-40C organic group without inhibiting the coupling reaction and also stable for the coupling reaction] in the presence of (C) a group VIII metal-containing metal complex catalyst.
