Use of at least a carbohydrate (I) for the intense coloring- and/or oxidative brightening- of keratin containing fibers, preferably human hairs. Use of at least a carbohydrate (I) of formula (HOH 2C-(CHOH) n-C(=O)-R) for the intense coloring- and/or oxidative brightening- of keratin containing fibers, preferably human hairs. R : H or hydroxymethyl; and n : 1 or 2. Independent claims are included for: (1) an agent (Q) in a cosmetic carrier for coloring keratin containing fiber, preferably human hairs comprising (I) and at least a color modifying component; and (2) color changing of keratin containing fibers, preferably human hairs, comprising applying (Q) on the hair and washing the hair after an impact time.
