The vehicle component (1) has a unit (11), with which a pre-adjusted position is recovered. The adjusted position is distinguished by a signal. The signal is haptic, optic and acoustic. The component is a seat and a steering column. The adjusting resistance is changed in the adjusted position. The unit has a catch projection (7,7') and a catch spring (8), which work together in the adjusted position in a form-fit manner. The adjusted position is changeable. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for locating a pre-adjusted position of two parts (2) a method for determining a pre-adjusted position.
