An audio player and a controlling method thereof are provided to recognize the height of the sound visually by adjusting the size of letters. An audio player capable of adjusting letters in size comprises a recording medium, a sound play part(12), a speaker(SP), a display part(14), and a letter size adjusting part(18A). Sound source data and letter data are stored in the recording medium. The sound play part recovers the sound signal for audio information from the sound source data. The speaker converts the sound signal from the sound play part into sound. The letter size adjusting part controls the size of the letter corresponding to the sound source data among the letter rows displayed by the display part according to the height of the sound made from the sound source data. The letter size adjusting part judges the height of the sound based on the frequency of the sound.
