PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid fuel with high calorific-value and to provide a method for economically producing the solid fuel with a high yield. SOLUTION: The solid fuel is produced in two-step process, comprising a step (step S1) of adding sodium which is an alkali compound to a wood-based biomass, Pseudotsuga taxifolia and a step (step S2) of heating the biomass in a gas containing oxygen at a specified temperature rise rate. The preferable heating temperature of the Pseudotsuga taxifolia with added sodium is 200-600°C. The preferable temperature rising rate is less than 20°C per min and the heating time is 30-90 min.
