PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which is not be affected by viewing angle characteristics and which has high display quality. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display which has first and second panels optically superposed on each other and in which the respective panels conduct gray scale displays based on an image signal, the liquid crystal display device is equipped with a signal distributer 401 to make the first panel conduct a gray scale display with a gray scale, corresponding to a luminance ratio, which will not affected by the viewing angle characteristics, where the ratio of luminance, corresponding to an arbitrary gray scale to that corresponding to the maximum gray scale in the gray scale display, is defined as being the luminance ratio.
