PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate parking operation which a beginner is bad at by assisting the parking operation, i.e., the operation from starting of parking to finishing of it. SOLUTION: The parking assistant device assists that the vehicle retreating-parks from a parking initial position relative to a target parking frame in parallel in the state that a steering angle of a steering wheel of the vehicle is the maximum steering angle, and has a display means; a parking operation control means; and an image control means. The display means displays information for assisting the retreating parking. The parking operation control means determines a kind of the image displayed on the display means and a kind of a guide sign overlapped with the image on the display means making a signal accompanying with driving of the retreating parking as a trigger signal, and outputs instruction required for parking operation assistance based on the determined matter. The image control means receives the instruction of the parking operation assistance, overlaps the determined image data with the guide sign, and displays it on a picture of the display means.
