PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body structure for an automobile comprising a driver seat at a vehicle width center in a cabin in which the support rigidity of an instrument panel member is effectively improved by a correct constitution according to the vehicle body structure. SOLUTION: The vehicle body structure for an automobile is provided with the driver seat 6 disposed at the vehicle width center on a cabin floor 5, and pair of right and left front side frames 42 and 42 installed to extend from a front part of an engine room along the lower surface of the cabin floor 5 in the forward-rearward direction of the vehicle body. Inside an instrument panel 40 installed at the forward end of the cabin, the instrument panel member 60 is installed to extend in the vehicle width direction to support a steering wheel 9, etc. The cabin floor 5 where the front side frames 42 are installed is connected to the instrument panel member 60 through a connection bracket 62.
