PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder and an image recording method in which a degradation of recorded images such as nonuniformity and color variation is not generated even if the conveyance speed of a recording medium fluctuates. SOLUTION: A test pattern formed in a belt 33 is read, and the resulting speed variation data of the belt 33 based on the reading result is stored beforehand. The speed variation data is read at the time of image recording to correct the record timing. Another embodiment is possible in which a test pattern is formed on a recording paper 16 instead of forming a test pattern on the belt 33; the test pattern is read by a test pattern-reading section provided separately from an adsorption belt conveyance section; and the speed variation data of the recording paper 16 is determined from the reading result for storing. Further, another embodiment is possible in which a test pattern is formed on an intermediate transcript in a transfer system; the test pattern is read; and the speed variation data of the intermediate transcript is determined from the reading result for storing.
