PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dielectric barrier discharge lamp power supply unit which can achieve uniform light emission and reduce the RMS value of the driving voltage applied to a discharge lamp while keeping uniform light emission. SOLUTION: A flat surface discharge lamp power supply unit 11 is connected to a flat surface discharge lamp 1 for turning on the flat surface discharge lamp 1, by applying the high frequency and high voltage AC power supply voltage to the flat surface discharge lamp 1 as the load driving voltage Vb. A reactor 27 is connected in series with the flat surface discharge lamp 1 between the flat surface discharge lamp 1 and the flat surface discharge lamp power supply unit 11. A value of the series reactor 27 is set up such that a loading circuit for turning on the flat surface discharge lamp 1 resonates in the neighborhood of the frequency band equal to odd number multiple of the fundamental frequency of the rectangular wave voltage Va from an inverter 13.
