PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device that can surely position the end face of an optical fiber, and prevent production of defective products to improve the yield in manufacturing the optical device, and to provide a manufacturing method of the optical device. SOLUTION: A substrate 11 has advance forming grooves 400, 700 in parallel to the optical element array 20, formed in a position between an optical element array 20 and the end face 10T of an optical fiber 70. In addition, in a region including a part of the advance forming grooves, a slit 35 is provided in parallel to the optical element array 20. Accordingly, a slope 500 going down from the mounting face 22 of the substrate 11 is formed from the optical element array 20 side to the end face 10T side of the optical fiber 70. The inner wall 36 of the slit 35 continuous to the slope 500 is a butting part 600 for positioning while butting on the end face 10T of the optical fiber 70. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
