PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for electrostatic latent image development and a developer for electrostatic latent image development that are stable against mechanical stress applied to the carrier and excellent in image characteristics. SOLUTION: The carrier for electrostatic latent image development has a core particle and a resin coating layer coating the surface of the core particle, and the developer for electrostatic latent image development contains the carrier, wherein an average interval Sm and an arithmetic average roughness Ra representing the surface roughness of the core particle are set in a predetermined range and the lowermost layer of the resin coating layer comprising at least two layers contains at least one of a novolac resin and a novolac resin derivative. Therefore, the present invention can provide the carrier for electrostatic latent image development and the developer for electrostatic latent image development that are stable against mechanical stress applied to the carrier and excellent in image characteristics.
